Nicolae Miu's attorney Corey Chirafisi gives the defense's closing argument in the Apple River stabbing trial.
(Excerpt) Read more at youtube.com ...
I originally watched the video and just couldn’t sort it out. The attorney did that for me. Plus, he correlated Nick Miu’s responses to the attacks, and it made it crystal clear. This guy needs to walk free and the hooligans need to be prosecuted.
Meant to say...”Nick Miu’s legal responses to the attacks...”
Thanks for posting this article.
Couldn’t agree more. Too bad prosecutors can’t be charged for incompetence or worse....They need to be held accountable too when something this so grossly ridiculous happens.
That was poetic and powerful. Thank you.
I hate bullies and I hate wokeism.
Same here. Bullies are cowards. They never go after bigger or stronger. I guess we never know about Juries though. I just see no other decision but full acquittal. The defense closing arguments were just superb, could not be any more convincing.
The defense did a good job on the closing statements. The prosecutor of course pointed out other aspects that made me question whether Miu’s actions were entirely self defense. The prosecutor made it sound like after the initial attack on Miu and him slashing and stabbing his attackers in order to get away, Miu left the immediate area and then returned to knife another guy (maybe the guy taking the video?).
I have not watched the entire trial.
I need to search and see if anybody drew a map of the site and a timeline reconstruction of events as it is pretty confusing. The defense mentioned upstream and downstream a few times, but I couldn’t tell where the boys were in relationship to Miu all the time.
Of course it isn’t like a traffic wreck where they can map out the skid marks and stuff, but I’m very spacial oriented so that would help me. Hmm - without a sketch map and timeline, I think me personally would have to say there was a reasonable doubt that he intended to kill everyone that was injured, or the teen that was killed.
In the middle of watching the boy (Dante) that Miu stabbed where the defense said Miu left and then returned. Miu had defended himself against the others and was standing again after being held under the water and punched.
Dante had been pushed away by another boy who told Dante to “stop it” (presumably yelling, maybe pushing or punching). Dante said his back was towards the melee and then he heard screaming. Dante turned around and said that Miu was 6 feet away from him and Miu approached him and stabbed him once.
To me, that doesn’t sound like Miu leaving and returning and seeking out Dante in order to stab him like the prosecutor’s closing arguments said. I haven’t heard anything else about it, but if I was Miu I might think “Oh - geez, that guy is turning around to attack me again.” And of course I am just taking Dante’s word that Miu approached him and not the other way around.

Still watching the video of the testimony of the 20 year old Dante that was with the two women, Riley and Madison, whom he has known since middle school.
In his police report he said he saw Miu make a swift motion and hit Riley (brunette, standing next to Dante). Now his testimony is that Miu hit Madison (blonde), and gives very precise account of where Miu’s arm and hand was in relationship to his body, he full on punched Madison on her left side, just below the eye - on her upper cheek.
Except the video shows that Miu had the knife in his right hand, and one would expect there to be a cut, mark, or her glasses damaged.
It must be a different video (if there is one) where the defense talks about Dante getting stabbed. Unless the defense couldn’t poke any holes in that story.
“I need to search and see if anybody drew a map of the site and a timeline reconstruction of events as it is pretty confusing.”
That’s what I was thinking. There were a lot of dancers on the dance floor, and it was very confusing...especially since a lot of the video was shot in vertical mode. Too much is left out on the right and left. A map (to scale) would’ve been helpful.

Nic Miu found guilty for Apple River stabbing. I haven’t watched the video yet, but I figured his statements and lies to his friends and the police didn’t help matters any.
Yesterday I was talking to my daughter about this. If you injure somebody in self defense, make sure you are safe, aid the person if it is safe to do so (Miu wouldn’t have been safe), call 911 and ask for help. “Somebody has been stabbed on the Apple River just upstream of ....”. When police come you stay there and don’t answer any questions unless it will help the injured person “He ran off that way” or to find other evidence “He tossed something into the woods over there.”
Classic video of never talk to the police:

He did everything wrong AFTER the incident and that sealed his fate.
Found guilty.
Assuming Buford Pusser wasn’t there, most folks would be afraid the psycho mob’s attention would turn on them.
I don’t fault the Defendant for not thinking of this, but he might have saved his bacon by saying something like, “I KNOW I haven’t done anything wrong, but if you think I have, call the police RIGHT NOW, and let them sort it out.” The last thing teenage drunks would want is the police showing up and asking them questions. They might have blown out some big talk, maybe even punched him in the stomach, but they probably would have left.
At the local dog park some accusations started flying about a dog biting somebody so the person with the dog called the police. The person that got “bit” (a scratch really - from grabbing her ball that another dog had) was told by the animal control person (that was nearby and arrived first) “Hey - it’s a dog park. Things like this happen, and you assume that risk taking your dog to play with 20 other dogs.”

Perhaps a moot point, but above is a video of testimony with digital renderings and maps of the Apple River with locations of the various parties, maps, correlated with the video phone images.
I was hoping he would get off but suspected there might be some blowback for his actions. Some of the video I watched...he did seem to react strangely. And he did handle the aftermath poorly. Tossing in the last-minute charges by the prosecution was an admission on their part that they made a mistake in their initial charges. That was a crap-thing for them to do. Hope there’s an appeal.
The “attorney/detective” video you included should be required watching on an annual basis. I’ve seen it before and have it saved somewhere. Every time I watch it, I think...I need to watch it more often.
Lesser charges that were added on literally the day before jury deliberations because the prosecution knew it wouldn’t have flown on their original idiotic Murder 1.
I hope this guy has resources to appeal. This was a clear cut case of self defense.
