My ancestors fought across “ Bloody Kansas” a few years before the recent unpleasantness in 1860. (We’re not sure which side though. Probably for the crooks.)
Made me think of Jose Wales. Grin. There is quite a history regarding the Jayhawkers and Missouri.

My great-great grandfather disappeared in “Bloody Kansas” in 1857, never to be seen again, when he traveled there from Virginia to claim land left to his father for fighting in the War of 1812.
