US-59 BRIDGE REOPENED NEAR SALLISAW AFTER BEING STRUCK BY BARGE, ODOT SAYS
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said US-59 is now open at the Arkansas River south of Sallisaw. ODOT says engineers inspected the structure and found it safe to reopen.

THAT is just a special kind of stupid, don't care, lack of skill on the sticks. You have to work at it to hit that bridge on that side coming upbound into the lock approach. And today was slack water. The bridge is below the dam.
I've decked many times coming into that approach both ways. It is the wind that gets you coming down bound.

Lucky that is all that happened. Looks like fuel barges, but empty headed upbound for a load of heavy bunker fuel most likely.
The McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System is a gift of Senator Robert S. Kerr of Poteau, Oklahoma and Speaker Carl Albert of Bugtussle, Oklahoma which is one of the NE suburbs of the McAlester Metro Area.
I grew up with my late Father building and managing many of the dams now in the state. It was a much different time back then. The places look like crap now. He would be ashamed and disgusted. Actually I am happy he is not here to see the mess things have been made.
I spent 40 years making a living in the oilfields of the world and being a deckhand through college on a line haul towboat is about the roughest job I ever had.
