DeSantis gave a short talk on the history of squatter’s rights and how at some point in history they made sense with people abandoning property and no records etc. etc
DeSantis comes across as a ‘good ole boy’ but in fact he has a law degree from Harvard and his ‘great instincts’ have more to do with a high IQ than with ‘instincts’.
That said, he talked about Florida snowbirds - and how they lived up north in the summer and here in the winter and spring and their homes often sat empty and needed to be protected. As ALL our homes needed to be protected. New laws were written and if some lowlife moves into a Florida home the police are called the police and the police arrest the squatters and remove them.
It’s similar to when a burglar breaks into your home. You call the police, the police arrest the guy. And he’s gone.
Your homeowners insurance would likely cover any damage. We’re not talking days or weeks - we’re talking hours or minutes to arrest squatters. You’re right that this law was just passed a few days ago so we’ll learn more over the next few weeks.
Florida can protect homeowner’s rights for the home he owns in Florida. But not the one he owns in New York. Theses are state laws and New York usually stands with criminals, homeless, drug addicts, killers etc. So I assume New York would protect squatters/criminals over any citizens. New York’s a democrat hellhole after all.
Thanks for your input.
Take it for what it's worth, Barack Obama and Moochie have law degrees from Harvard. So does Geraldo Rivera, Jerry Springer, Fidel Castro, Nelson Mandela, Former homo RAT Senator Barney Frank, Sandy Berger (Clinton's National Archive their), Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer and Elena Sagan, Chief Justice John Roberts, Former Attorney General in Obama's Administration General Loretta Lynch, and Mitt Romney.
Lawyers are a dime a dozen in this country.
