We can thank the left for the current state of housing law.
DeSantis is the best governor in the nation in my lifetime
A truly terrifying segment regarding this issue was on War Room at 5 p.m. yesterday. A journalist from Epoch Times was Bannon’s guest.
Once again, DeSantis leads with action, not talk, and proves that’s the only true way forward.
Also tons of credit to the state legislature for passing all of these common sense laws for him to sign.

DeSantis is a great governor. He would have made a good President IMHO, although I still prefer Trump.
Yup.
He’s why we moved to Florida!!! Hoping all states follow his lead.
I can't wrap my head around this. Why not a simple check of the county real property records. You can do that online!
I second the motion
“If the suspect is unable to produce documents authorizing his residency, ”
They will have those. Lease forms are everywhere. They’ll forge one and have it handy.
Fla’s law establishes harsher penalties for squatting crimes, including
<><>a second-degree felony charge against squatters who damage a home,
<><>a first-degree felony charge against those who fraudulently sell or lease a property,
<><>and a misdemeanor charge against those who purposefully present a fraudulent lease.
<><>the law allows property owners to file an affidavit to prove they legally own a property.
<><>Squatters then face criminal charges that they illegally moved into a home.
<><>the property owner can call on the sheriff’s office to immediately remove the squatter.
“DeSantis is the best governor in the nation in my lifetime.”
He’s done a damned fine job, that’s for sure.

He is absolutely 100% correct.
Many of these laws were written to protect renters.
There will need to be a way to do a signature match. This will mean that signatures must not be published in public records.
“provides criminal penalties for any person who knowingly & willfully presents false document purporting to be valid lease agreement, deed, or other instrument conveying real property rights; prohibits listing or advertising for sale, or renting or leasing, residential real property.”
It gives law enforcement the power to remove squatters.....many times the police KNOW it’s a case of squatting but they were prohibited from intervening by law.....not any more.
Also, another scam is listing properties online that the lister doesn’t own and taking payments.
A few live exercises around the state proving the law works will dry up this stupidity.

It’s worse than most people think:
If a property owner pursues filing eviction proceedings against illegal squatters - as they are frequently told to do - they confer legal rights as ‘tenants’ to the squatters under the laws in many states.
I’m of the opinion that there’s a tremendous black market opportunity for enterprising individuals here to secure the target properties, and that in extreme circumstances ‘push comes to shove’ is mandated against those who either publicly support squatter’s rights or those who push back against needed reform.
Kudos DeSantis.
They can try that, but it looks like it will up the charges from a misdemeanor to a felony.
