I think Stockholm Syndrome explains why that would be- Thety are also beaten down and gaslighted to believe that they are the problem, not the abuser
Gaslighting is an extreme mental abuse that causes someone who should know better to believe lies after months or years of lies are told them- they get brainwashed to believe they are the cause of all the problems when their minds cave in to the mental gaslighting abuse
