Because we don't have term limits, congresscritters with tenure have two ways to get newbies to do their bidding:

1. Give them some of their excess campaign cash to help them win their next election, and

2. Highlight their seniority on important committees with their concomitant ability to help the newbie get money for his district or state.

I wonder if this abomination regarding gender-changing children is ideological or just a way to spend lots of money and hire people in some congresscritter's district or state.

Yes. But the further we slide into the dustbin it becomes unnecessary for term limits. The only way out of this now is by fighting and not enough people have the balls or will to commit to one.
