Another fantastic cough suppressant is onions and honey. Slice the onions and cover with honey. Wait for 12 hours, then take a tsp full or more of the juice.
I can do the juice. Lucky for me the recipe doesn't call for eating the onions themselves. Just ask anyone who's ever been in a small enclosed room with me after an onion-heavy lunch or dinner. :-)
