I spent most of yesterday in the ER due to hyponatremia (Low sodium). It happens to old people.
.
Low Sodium? Sounds like you handled it and it might not be relevant to your case but I’ve always been a salt baby-—from the gitgo. While I don’t have any health issues my quackass Doc has done his best to create some. First, for no real actual reason, he suggested I cut back on salt. At his suggestion I tried it twice and by accident it’s happened a few other times along he way.
If I don’t get enough salt in my regular diet I wake up at the stroke of midnight with a Charley Horse. A few licks of salt cures it in minutes so I’ve long kept a small salt shaker by my bed.
It seems to be a standard whine amongst the medicos but at least some of us need salt in our diets and it needs to be enough to offset the watery stuff we drink all day——the two go together. As with the 91 YO MIL, lots of older folks start forgetting to drink enough water hen the rest of the problems cascade from there.
I had low sodium in a test a couple years ago. I felt fine, it was not too low.
Doc said I was drinking too much water.
I naturally assumed I needed to add more salt to foods but she said it was from too much water.
I had to admit I drink a lot of water.
I don’t do that anymore.
😅
Yes it does. Our experience with doctors/nurses, at least some, it they disregard low sodium. My husband has to push the issue to get a test and get something done. Taking diuretics contributes to the likelihood of getting low sodium in right circumstances. I hope you are better. It makes one loopy and weak!
