Not that you asked me but I always expect Norwegians on the bridge of a merchant ship. I guess that’s no longer true.
I would not expect an American Captain or crew on any merchant vessel anywhere these days. They do exist but they are increasingly rare. Americans just don't do that kind of work anymore.
There are zero US flagged passenger vessels and only a total of 178 cargo ships of all types on the high seas today. The officers and crews are all "Multi-national".
