Good grief! Thanks for posting this; important information for those of us who have elderly loved ones. ‘Comfort Care’ sounds intentionally horrible.

An 80 year old friend of mine moved out of California to buy a house in Texas. About 1 month after she moved we chatted on the phone. She had to sell her house because living at that altitude was killing her. She had been told her 'new' heart problems were altitude related.

While packing, she became very weak and couldn't stand up so she went to the hospital. While in the ER, the docs confirmed the altitude was causing her heart problems. They 'invited her' to sign a 'do not resessucitate' order for her stay in the hospital as well as any return visits from that point forward unril she moved away. She was indignant and explained she wanted to get home to complete the paperwork to transfer her loan. They asked her if she was sure, and noted 'You'd be surprised how many people choose the 'do not resessuitate' option and that it was a gentle decision etc.

We were both appalled to think how many aged people or those with chronic illnesses were simply approached at a hard moment in their lives and invited to end it, told that others found it a good option, and took that option too. How much of that was even true? Possible incentive pay to get patients to 'opt out' of living? No one in the hospital could encourage these people? NOT ONE DOCTOR OR NURSE FOUND VALUE IN THE LIVES OF THEIR PATIENTS?

High altitude, in TX?

Was she in W TX?

God bless her. I hope she is doing much better, now.

And, yes ... just sickening that they nudged her to sign the DNR, against her will. Good for her, for standing up for herself, when these “health” “care” professionals were not.

This is my first post since January when I asked for help with information on remdesivir because my sister was being given it for covid. She survived and was released. Then in early February her live in caregiver abruptly left so I moved in with her and her husband while we worked to arrange for help for them. Both are 100% disabled so can’t be alone.

In early March my sister suffered from hypoxia and was rushed to the hospital where they put her on a ventilator and kept her sedated. Her husband has a DNR/DNI document and told the doctor to remove the ventilator. I and all her other siblings asked him to delay so they could come before the ventilator was removed. He refused so they removed it.

Incredibly when they did, she woke up, looked around and said, “I’m hungry.” Three days later, they released her. Before they did, the doctor came in and asked her what her wishes were regarding how much medical intervention she wanted used to save her life. The doctor seemed very reluctant to remove the ventilator and tried to get her to change her DNR/DNI order.

I don’t know why he did that but he wanted her to agree to the ventilator if needed again. She stated clearly, in front of witnesses that she did not want to be taken to the hospital again and did not want to be vented again.

So, I took her home and all our siblings came to town for a week of a family reunion. She was strong and engaged the whole week. Within a few days after everyone left, she passed quietly in her sleep. She was only 65.

We honored her wishes and didn’t take her back to the hospital and though it was hard to do, it was the right thing. Trips to the hospital would have been more frequent putting her through that wouldn’t have changed the outcome, only postponed it.

God blessed us with such a joyous week with her and each other before she passed.

NOT ONE DOCTOR OR NURSE FOUND VALUE IN THE LIVES OF THEIR PATIENTS?

That's how I view all medical people now. The ethical ones got fired during the Covid Hoax.

My dad had a diabetic event and was in a coma. I was told he was a vegetable and would never wake up. Did I want to feed him? "Of course" But he's a vegetable and won't ever wake up! He could live like this for 20 years! "You will feed and care for him until God says he's going home."

10 days later when I walked in and said "hi dad", he answered me back "Hi!" We had a great 2 years after that.
