UNITED ENGINE CATCHES FIRE MINUTES INTO FLIGHT FROM BUSH AIRPORT: 'THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO DIE'

Back when planes had four engines, the pilot could kill one and still fly pretty good. Now with only two, that is not as easy.

These days, the size and thrust those engines put out, not that difficult. Now if it was, as someone pointed out, a compressor stall and you don’t deal with it properly, you’ll have issues with the surging (again, big monster engines surging can feel like you’re on a roller coaster ride.)

All commercial 2 engined aircraft are capable of flying on one engine, and even climbing. This happens more than is reported and as long as there is a reasonably decent pilot on board it’s no big deal. It’s a scenario they practice a lot in the simulator.
