If you bring a truckload of knives to a gunfight, you're gonna lose.
This is an artillery fight. The Ukrainians are bringing empty pockets to an artillery fight - and so would their NATO sponsors if they got involved.
Its more like NATO is low on knives but has lots of automatic rifles. Tube artillery is old tech, no matter its upgrades. It is incredibly vulnerable to destruction from the air, and interdiction of its cumbersome logistics.
This is an artillery fight only because neither side has an effective air force. NATO doesnt have that problem.
