The shame was discovering that those words no longer applied anywhere that I can name. Not in a national rallying cry, nor national action, while pitchforks were deemed foment for a civil war. Right here, even.
What is called patriotism and heroism, today, in discourse, makes one want to heave green bile. (I would know.)
Blessed I was to grow up with warriors and sacrificial parents, a mother & aunt as Rosies’ the Riviters’, a NAVY father stationed at a pilot training base as a control tower operator, uncles and neighborhood dads, all fresh veterans of active duty “Over There”.
Hollywood was run by Jews they said, and their productions were teaching tools of valor for we American kids, who never let go of the desire for it.
Thank God.
And thank God for the teachers, priests and pastors, who helped raise us.
Fly-over country saved us, we who never went near the coastal states and their universities of Babel, but got through in farm and ranch state colleges and universities.
