I honestly think a better deal was to send the slaves to Cuba. President Polk wanted to buy Cuba for $100M but was turned down by Spain. He should have invaded or sweetened the deal and sent the blacks there.

Yeah...I know that they're not our problem but the Christian in me felt it was better to send them 90 miles away and civilize them than to make the perilous voyage all the way back to Africa. There wouldn't have been a Castro or Cuban Missile Crisis either.
