Cotton - share how your first day volunteering yesterday at cat rescue went?

Did you come home with a couple?

No I didn’t, thanks for reminding me. The cats have a nice facility, they have a big room with lots of toys and cushions and windows, that’s for the cats that get along with each other. Others are in small cages.

But I won’t be going back. They do a very good job adopting their dogs, they vet the owners quite thoroughly. With cats it’s no different than anywhere else. Anybody walking by a pet store that has a sudden impulse to get a cat gets one. I figure at least half of those are not going to be good homes forever.

So here’s my new idea. I’ll offer to Foster kittens from one of the local shelters. They are always looking for people. Then I tell them that I will either keep them or find them good homes, and pay the adoption fees. Before that I’ll have a commitment from one Northeast rescue to take them. So the shelter can handle any medical and if there are any unexpected costs. If one of my known rescues won’t take them in they can always go back to the shelter :-( I think I’ll pick one of the better rescues, not Carter County definitely. Just to give them a better chance if I can’t find them a place to go myself. And especially if the mother is feral. Federal cost me about half of what I paid before, since I covered the medical myself. So I can do up to two litters a year!
