I found a book put out by Readers Digest called “The magic and Medicine of Plants’ and it is surprisingly well researched and well written.

I have huge Encyclopedias of natural plants, remedies, and so on, but they are/were pricey and unlikely to be found at flea markets and thrift stores, (I am always on the lookout for them for friends and family!)

Books like this are a great starting point! This is where I learned (many moons ago)

“from our friends A wikipedia:

“A precursor to aspirin found in the bark of the willow tree (genus Salix) has been used for its health effects for at least 2,400 years.[10][11] In 1853, chemist Charles Frédéric Gerhardt treated the medicine sodium salicylate with acetyl chloride to produce acetylsalicylic acid for the first time.[12] Over the next 50 years, other chemists, mostly of the German company Bayer, established the chemical structure and devised more efficient production methods
