Bicyclists heading south on the east side of the highway. wouldn’t that be riding against traffic. Dangerous thing to do. That would be against the law in my State.

Of course, this is the MSM, who can’t be counted on to know East from West, or their left from their right, so who knows?

Likely the west side of Highway 9 was mostly ditch, no room to ride. Unless Highway 9 has been widened, the bicyclists had no choice but to ride on the east side of the road.
Riding shotgun, there were turns where I could almost reach out and touch the hillside. 85 YO drivers and Highway 9 are a bad mix. Throw in bicyclists at sundown, tha makes it much worse.
I remember a steady diet of venison, drivers were always hitting deer.
