Lol! Yep, was thinking the same thing. Who doesn’t love a good “Florida Man” story or event?

Here in Texas they have an off road mud fest. With every kind of vehicle you can imagine. It’s Called rednecks with paychecks.

The games kicked off Saturday with the “Star Spangled Banner” played on electric guitar. Then spectators sipping canned beers behind metal barricades cheered and frequently shouted expletives as a dozen teams battled in contests inspired by real events from America’s most surreal state. Those of us who live here all have stories...

For the last several weeks the Tampa Bay area has been celebrating the pirate Gasparilla - - not ‘overcoming’ pirates but being pirates. It’s a strange state.

Anyone who's not easily offended should give Tim Dorsey's "Florida Roadkill" pulp fiction cult classic a read. Characters "Serge A. Storms" and "Colman" would be right at home at the Florida Man games.

That Gasparilla festival has been going on for a pretty long time, at least a hundred years since they started having it. I’ve only been once, back in the 80’s.

Unlike the bitter unhappy buggers in blue states, we in happy, prosperous and free Florida still have the ability to laugh at ourselves…

I was there.
I think Francis Field is not going to be a big enough venue if they want to repeat it next year. They’ll either have to cap admission, or get a bigger venue.
Only complaint is the exorbitant cost of parking in St. Augustine’s municipal parking garage. ($20 flat fee)

It was certainly entertaining. :P
I was amused that even some of the local pirate re-enactors showed up in their full costumes. It was so out-of-place, and yet, so “Florida” that it was just perfect.
