ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. They rose up by the dozens from across Florida, caricatured competitors in tank tops and cutoff shorts, for a showdown that treats evading police and wrestling over beer like Olympic sports. Promoted as “the most insane athletic showdown on Earth,” the Florida Man Games poke fun at the state’s reputation for bizarre stories that involve brawling, drinking, gunfire, reptile wrangling and other antics carrying a risk of time in jail or intensive care. The games kicked off Saturday with the “Star Spangled Banner” played on electric guitar. Then spectators sipping canned beers behind metal barricades cheered and frequently shouted expletives as a dozen teams battled in contests inspired by real events from America’s most surreal state. Lol! Yep, was thinking the same thing. Who doesn’t love a good “Florida Man” story or event?
I think f.orida man tries it too, in order to get more beer money, bUT fails often
Here in Texas they have an off road mud fest. With every kind of vehicle you can imagine. It’s Called rednecks with paychecks.

For the last several weeks the Tampa Bay area has been celebrating the pirate Gasparilla - - not ‘overcoming’ pirates but being pirates. It’s a strange state.
ugh Society swirling the drain, ever faster.

That is genius!

Only complaint is the exorbitant cost of parking in St. Augustine’s municipal parking garage. ($20 flat fee)
Cool.....was it as absolutely hilarious as it looked?
“...Cool.....was it as absolutely hilarious as it looked?...”
It was certainly entertaining. :P
I was amused that even some of the local pirate re-enactors showed up in their full costumes. It was so out-of-place, and yet, so “Florida” that it was just perfect.
Yes FamiliarFriend many decades... but the party and celebration’s been going on for weeks. I believe last night was the crowning of the King and Queen. Florida’s a cool...
That is a little excessive. Weeks?
