“Engines WIIL prematurely wear out if manufacturers bolt on a turbo-science!”

You should inform Cummins of this new science. Class 8 Diesel Cummins turbos last a half million miles between overhauls some go two overhauls without a bearing rebuild that’s a million miles. I have driven 5.9 Cummins 6cyl turbo diesels with 400,000+ miles on them.

Dodge has a long history with 6 cylinder in lines. You can bet the lower end for this motor is the same as the European 3.0 liter diesel that means it is bullet proof for gasoline engine pressure levels even boosted to 20+psi that’s nothing to what diesels put up with.

Cummins has gone to all common lower ends for its motor lines. The they intend on having different heads for different fuels diesel, propane, hydrogen, natural gas,and on the smaller engines gasoline. The bottom part of the engines are identical from fuel to fuel only the heads are different and piston bowl shapes.

“Garret has been building turbochargers and turboprop engines for aircraft for decades. I would well-imagine that turbocharger will outlast any of the other bolt-on components of that engine.”

You would be 100% correct and are. I have had two Garrett turbos aftermarket of course big boys 70 mm one was on a SAAB that had a crate motor in it as my rally toy. The turbo out lasted three engine rebuilds but running at 40psi and using E85 with large bore after market injectors is hard on any engine. Total miles on the frame and turbo was 125,000 well over 100K was under hellish boost conditions. Three inch open pipe from the turbine and waste gate back. You could hear the whine for daaaayyyssss. Garrett makes bullet proof turbines.

Now that is impressive some of those down angles will only be seen by crate motors on real motor sports and marine use they did at least 60 degrees nose down and nose up no one other than power sports will ever see those not even “off roading” which for most people is hey let’s drive down this well defined gravel trail. Rock hoppers will never be nose up at wide open throttle. Impressive indeed to not be oil starved at those crazy bank and dip angles. As long as they use water cooled turbo bearings these turbos will last forever it’s the heat cooking the oil in the bearings after you turn off the vehicle that murders a turbo.

My SAAB and Volvo both had Garrett turbines and both have/had turbo timers to let them spin down and cool while under idle loading. Nothing as satisfying as the sound of a bug turbine spinning up under heavy boost then the shift point and a giant puussshhhhhhh when 40+ psi of boost blows off as the throttle slaps closed on the shift. The pull of a heavy boosted turbo motor from 2000rpm upwards is and can never be matched with natural aspiration turbos give peak torque from 1800rpm upwards limited only by the boost controller top end pressure setting. My SAAB could pull from 40 to 140 in 4th gear faster than most cars could do it even shifting at will. In 6th the upper limit was your own stones on the track 180mph was easy to get too if you had the stones to hold the speed in the straits. The car ran out of gear before torque at top end speeds it hit red line before it stopped pulling for more speed. One very brief time it crossed into the 200 radar verified range on the flats using E85 42psi and racing slicks with modified down 3” on the front struts. Like I said Garrett accept no substitutes best turbines made period.
