Many states have candidate filing deadlines that have already passed.

So did New Jersey when Bob Torricelli was indicted. They still put old Frank Lautenburg on the ballot, and the NJ SC said it was okay, because you can't just have an empty democratic party contender.

That’s a NJ state senatorial election. Each state has their own deadlines, so I don’t quite see how we’re having the same conversation?
