Diesel Knock List!................For Gasoline!..............
What works in the lab doesn’t always work in the real world, for many reasons.
I miss my RX-7
My dad is an ASE-certified mechanic and worked on Mazdas. He talked about how those engines were complete trash. So problem-laden.
Of course it doesn’t work.
Mazda were always wanklers anyway.
I had one of those too. 🤗
Wonder what would happen is they increased compression ratio of diesel engines even more? Would they get better performance(mpg, hp, torque, emissions)? Might need a stronger engine build to handle the pressures generated...
I looked up this Skyactive not long ago Fter a fruend bought a Mazda 3 hatchback. I thought perhsps it was just a smaller gas engine with a turbo charger. Is that right or not?
I had a 1973 RX-4 never drove it much as I was in the military my younger brother hit an elk while I was on TDY and it didn’t survive..
From what I understand...skyactiv never made it to the USA. It did not meet is trumpeted goals in real life. What Mazda did was just give conventional gas engines in USA....which were ok...but no big deal..I was very interested in the concept...but it did not happen in USA...
“Skyactiv” appears to be a blanket designation that covers a variety of technologies. Regardless of what technology actually arrives in the US, a Skyactiv badge will be on the back of the car.
Skyactiv did make it to the US. Skyactiv-G with its enhanced MPG has been here since the 2012 model year.
Skyactiv-D was slated, but was just a hair over the EPA’s coming pollution standard, without any added emissions equipment. Adding the equipment added thousands of dollars of cost and reduced MPG quite a bit, so it didn’t make it.
It was believed Skyactiv-X would be here, by now, but with mandated electric expectations, it is not what Mazda sees it can sell for long.
Pretty good explanation here: https://youtu.be/lsPhQaramio?si=Fz1IloPVfOEKvVge
“What works in the lab doesn’t always work in the real world, for many reasons”
Skyactive X engines are being sold in the UK so its out of the lab.
So, what would be the reason it isn’t sold in America?
“So, what would be the reason it isn’t sold in America?”
The article speculates why.
Mazda goes hmmmm?
Their Wankel engine went bust too...
Stratified charge engines have been around for a long time.
The Honda CVCC engine was one example.
