These are very smart and adaptive animals. With trail-cam videos, we’ve much time watching them and we’ve been subject to their destructive antics.
They can be very vicious. They kill small animals such as rabbits and house cats with ease. They will fight amongst themselves over food. They do not climb trees, they literally run up them. A house cat taking to a tree for protection is toast if chased by a coon.
We had a feeding area for deer. (we do not hunt deer, just enjoy watching them). In one video there were 13 coons milling about taking food and fighting over it. They looked like ants milling around.
Last fall a trail cam caught two coons cornering one of our cats. The cat was never seen again.
We cannot keep an outside cat for the coons and coyotes. Both are shot on sight. Live trapping works best. Catch them and kill them. Transferring them to another area is dumb, as the problem is simply given to another person.
My son worked summer staff at a youth camp. He sent us a video of a skunk in a live trap as he walked to the dock singing hi Ho, hi Ho, skunk lining I will go. Splash
