“Chief comes from the French term chef, which originates from the Latin word caput, both of which refer to the head of a group.”

Native Americans probably use something like leader, headman.... but they didn’t use chief.

Chief is the anglicized version of chef.

So this argument is stupid because the etymology wasn’t consulted.
