I do think that we as Christians often “sanitize” Jesus too much; there is no doubt He spent much time with individuals with poor moral character and we as the church should be willing to do the same. BUT, and this is everything, as the author skillfully wrote, we need to preach Jesus as the I AM, the One who demands we come to Him in repentance. That’s the missing element of these commercials. Many, probably most, will reject that because they don’t recognize themselves as sinners who need to be born again. Too many churches don’t like the rejection and are attempting to soft-pedal the Gospel message; Truth is Truth, however, and telling a lost world lies about sin only helps pave that road to hell.
The are preaching a faulse christ. YESHUA is GOD, and they take that out of the message. Yes, he is love, but he is also perfectly HOLY. They preach a Volvo Jesus. He is grac3 AND truth. The era of grace will end, and he will return as a lion, and crush his enemies. Even so, come LORD!
