"Bless you. Here's a Laurel....and Hardy handshake.
"Here is the Blazing Saddles "Methodists" reference in context..."
********
I've been living a little bit of the "Blazing Saddles" story so much here in Michigan, it's unbelievable.
I was at a county convention last week with at least 400+ attendees. Just randomly sat off the end row of a main aisle, brought a trusty video camera & tripod as I know the local deep state hacks would be outing themselves. Sure as eventual rain, they tried pushing through all of their permanent executive committee positions and agenda items with the common theme:
"All those in favor?"
<5 seconds to allow the volume to build if possible>
"All those opposed?"
<0.2 seconds>
"The motion passes" (WELL before the louder chorus of "Neas" are heard)
So, just 20 feet away from me, an elderly man just can't take it any more. He stands up and points out the timing BS, but is greeted by the DS hacks shouting "Point of Order! Point of Order!" as they've been previously instructed to do. But the gentlemen isn't backing down. So finally Lt. Poolboy (Sgt. at Arms for the meeting; can't have any of the good people getting out of line without a traitorous enforcer present). He not only tells the gentlemen he has to leave, but the local police are there as well within seconds to make it official looking.
And there I was, camera rolling for the whole sordid scene.
After 5 minutes or so, the gentlemen was still holding his own, and eventually the police and Sgt. at Arms left him alone. After the meeting was adjourned, I went over to the guy and gave him a re-assuring handshake that he's now become a local hero.
Especially since my camera was rolling through the whole sordid affair... Carry on, FreeQs. Uber out.

Our mercies to others do not confer God’s Grace, they reflect it in us.
The focus is wrong.
Perusing the first church fathers, they are in agreement that the washing of feet was for the Apostles alone.
They did not go out into the world and wash feet, nor did they encumber upon the church some “sacramental” rite of foot washing.
Certainly the members of the church were not to wash feet of fellow congregants or even those outside the church, as we do not see that today.
It is also found in the Scripture that the Apostles found this a very hard lesson to absorb
In the very same night and room, we have this:
Luke 22
24 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. 25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
Jesus taught the Apostles, and all priests and pastors by extension, to serve those they have spiritual authority over.
To be humble in their service to others.
Not to go about “lording their authority” (the keys) over the parishioners.
The feet washing was the “ordination” of the Apostles by Christ Himself.
As we see today, men are to go through a period of learning/instruction before being properly ordained.

I would say the act of humility is undertaken by the washer so about the only thing the "washed" get is clean feet and example to follow. Which would seem to be good enough for me, not that I'm the Judge, but that the washer is a good example of let the least of these things you do to the least of my brothers you do unto me.
Again, knowing that God has the final say.
