Labour says it has “withdrawn support” for Rochdale by-election candidate Azhar Ali after his comments on Israel.
The BBC understands Mr Ali has been suspended from Labour pending an investigation.
The party said the decision was taken after "new information about further comments" by Mr Ali came to light. Earlier on Monday, Labour had defended standing by him as a candidate.
It is too late for the party to replace Mr Ali as its candidate.
The decision means that Mr Ali will remain on the ballot as the Labour candidate for Rochdale, but if he is elected he will sit as an independent MP or join another party.
It is also highly unlikely that Mr Ali would be selected by Labour to fight the forthcoming general election.
He is alleged to have told a Labour party meeting that Israel had "allowed" the deadly attack by Hamas gunmen on 7 October.

George Galloway is standing as an independent and looks to be the main beneficiary of the chaos.
Rochdale one of the “grooming” communities as I recall.
This election Thursday February 29th.
Two other by-elections for House of Commons seats before that.

Rochdale rape: Four boys aged 12 to 14 arrested
Four boys have been arrested on suspicion of rape in Rochdale, police have said. Greater Manchester Police said the boys, aged 12, 13, 14 and 14, were held after a "young female" reported being raped in the Newbold area at about 18:00 GMT on Saturday.
Nothing to identify either the boys nor the victim, but I think you can all make a well founded guess.
I recall that story passing by me over the weekend didn’t locate it to Rochdale knew it was in England.
Also knew I was reading the usual vague sanitized reporting of British Mainstream Media.

Israel didn’t, but don’t be surprised if the Neocons in the US ‘allowed’ the attack without tipping off the Israelis, in an attempt to install a more suicidal government in Jerusalem.

He is running as the Workers Party candidate and it’s a leftist seat, 30% Muslim. Ripe pickings for him.
