Wasted fans have turned the infamously rowdy Waste Management Phoenix Open into a “s–tshow.”
That’s how at least one PGA Tour golfer described Saturday’s throngs at TPC Scottsdale, which briefly shut down alcohol sales at various locations around the course and stopped admitting fans around 2 p.m.
“S–tshows. Totally out of control on every hole,” South Korean-born golfer Byeong Hun An posted Saturday on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Yes I know what I signed up for,” An wrote in response to one fan, along with a shrugging emoji. “Played here multiple times over the years and it was fine until today. it’s just personal experience.”
There also were videos posted of fights breaking out in the galleries and fans chanting “We want beer” while alcohol sales were suspended, as well as one of a shirtless male fan diving into a sand trap."

You are correct. Beers are around $9 and mixed drinks $12. I watch from a house so I bring my own. Sat General Admission was sold out but you could buy tickets off the re-sale sites for $150. Also, the Corp tent tickets are $500 to $2000 each on Sat. In the tents, you usually get 10 free drinks and food. On Sat I saw a couple of guys pulling small “airplane” bottles of liquor out of their jackets so I imagine there is a lot of that. I think a lot of people are buzzed before they get there. The lines to buy drinks were huge. We had people stopping by the house asking for beers or drinks. We would not do it. It used to be a lot of fun, but now I usually only go out on Sundays. They need to make changes.

You should set up a beer stand $10 beers would make some nice coin. Get a golf cart with a keg on it, even more coin.

IIRC Tiger refused to play this course back when he was on top specifically because of the fans. Years back a couple of my buddies weaseled their way into a VIP tent at the WM Open (happened to know the security) and reported it was like a frat party for millionaires. Rich old dudes stumbling around with their 30 year younger dates. That was over a decade ago, I can’t imagine the decorum has improved with time.
