Back in the day I worked on a lot of Republican political campaigns from very local offices to Congressional campaigns.
In every case there is a critical moment (often more than one) where the candidate has to decide whether they really believe their talking points—or are willing to betray them in order to get elected.
Most cave quickly.
There were a few exceptions—and I know of only one who successfully made it to Congress without compromising their integrity.
