We see flash-in-the-pan artists come and go with every decade, but one-hit wonders of the '70s ironically always seem to stick around. For example, you’ve probably heard the classics “American Pie” by Don McLean or “Spirit in the Sky” by Norman Greenbaum despite not knowing any of their other songs or discography. Below, music lovers have ranked the greatest songs of the '70s by one hit wonders in order to increase awareness for them—and also because they kick ass. In that vein, we should mention the incredible Weird Al Yankovic, whom Devo admired. Esp. w/r/t Dare to Be Stupid; but for my money Weird Al is a Prophet. A wonder, to be sure, but not a one-hit one. Probably deserves his own thread. Or universe.
I didn’t nominate that song—someone else mentioned “2525” as if it were a 1970s song. I agree it’s an interesting song (if not particularly logical). It came out about the same time as the first moon landing & moon walk by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Hey, Hoser. Geddy Lee hit #16 on “Take Off”.
And now come the flashbacks to roller skating on Saturday nights as a kid and that song playing over and over and over again as we all went around and around and around.
Billy Don’t Be a Hero, along with Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves and Charley Pride’s version of Kaw-Liga were the roller rink favorites and now I’ll be hearing them in my head all night until I go to bed, too.
