I heard that the student graves in question were forensically determined to be either stones or animals bones. The story went very quiet very fast. We knew that many deaths occurred at the residential schools because of disease, but we don’t know if or how many deaths were from homicide. There is plenty of blame to go around for even one purposeful death. The Catholic schools and clergy are being blamed, but people forget that the Canadian government created the laws that authorized the attempt to end the Native culture. They gave the Church the money to find the children, remove them from their homes, and run the schools for the express purpose of isolation and then assimilation. The government, more than any other party, wants this to go away, so it isn’t out of the question that they paid the forensic team for their findings.
