Government against organized crime in Ecuador: 5,804 people have been arrested 27 days after the declaration of an “internal armed conflict.”

The figure comes from a report by the Ecuadorian government on police and military operations carried out in the national territory under this new scenario, where 22 organized crime gangs have been designated as terrorist groups and non-state belligerent actors.

Ecuador’s law enforcement agencies have also seized over 43.1 tons of drugs and more than $117,000 in cash. Following these events, there were prison riots that resulted in nearly 200 prison officers being taken hostage, explosions, and cars set on fire on the streets, and even the takeover of a television channel by armed individuals.
