I had a cousin who collected stamps too. I never understood the draw of stamps.

Stamps are cool. Not only do you get to travel the world vicariously but you learn the name of every country in the local language of the country.

Plus you learn about people and historical events they deem to be important. For example, in Japan a famous author or anime artist is far more likely to get a commemorative postage stamp than a politician.
