The Garfield family home is located in Mentor, Ohio, just east of Cleveland. He is a distant cousin of mine and has lots of relatives in the area. I've been there, and it's worth a visit. Visitors can tour his home, see his book collection, and stand where he conducted his "front porch" campaign in 1880.
And, as an added bonus, the National Park Service guides do a great job adding detail and color. For example, I learned that the library was greatly expanded after President Garfield died.
The American people donated generously to ensure that Garfield's widow would not have to endure the poverty that Mary Todd Lincoln did.
