We watched the game tonight, cheering for the Lions. I kept saying to Beau, ‘WTF did THAT GUY just say? What did I miss on that play?!?!”

Olson commented at least twice on a "pin and pull" on a running play without demonstrating what he was talking about. What made John Madden great was that he did just that. Madden was an offensive lineman who understood that all football starts with the people at the line of scrimmage in the trenches blocking for the skill players. He would focus on the line play that sprang the running back for the big play, or allowed the defense to make a big play. Madden stayed away from jock lingo like "pin and pull" and prefered to illustrate what it was with the telestrator, which he would cycle to show it again if you missed it the first time. Madden didn't just run his mouth. He showed you what the play was.

I LOVED John Madden. I’ve been watching football since I was a Toddler. It’s in my Milwaukee-Born & Bred DNA. :)

The Pack used to play at Brown County Stadium in Milwaukee; they SHARED the stadium with The Braves...later, The Brewers. The Pack would alternate between Milwaukee County Stadium and Green Bay - until the (obviously under-taxed) Green Bay residents built them Lambeau Field. ;)

A good chunk of my childhood was spent in that stadium. Dad & my two Grandpas were die-hard Packer Fans. The Grandmas and my Mom LOVED baseball. We were always there. Lucky me! :)

Mom and I still travel 2 hours to see at least ONE Brewer’s Game each season. Sadly, I’ve only been to Lambeau Field twice so far...but I got to meet Reggie White, #92, ‘The Minister of DEFENSE!’ :)

This has nothing to do with John Madden; just giving you my Street Cred when it comes to football in general. I know what a play WAS - or was SUPPOSED to be. Maybe I should do the color commentary? LOL!
