Guns. CanAm Races. Unmuffled lawn mower. Many rock concerts (on the concert committee three years at college). Exploding rolls of caps. Exploding bike tires. Power plants (5 years). Headphones. Monster amps and Dahlquist DQ 10 speakers. Fireworks.
I’m surprised I can hear anything at 72. I sure do hear my tinnitus all the time except sleeping. But I can generally tune it out...unless I read an article like this.
Shooting, chainsaws, drill rigs, motorcycles, and concerts all took quite a bit of my hearing (smashing rolls of caps with a sledgehammer didn’t help either, but I didn’t do that often). Like you, I can generally ignore the tinnitus unless I think of it.
When I’m out where there’s very little noise, such as when hunting birds in the desert, I can still hear quite small sounds, but it’s been getting more difficult to sort conversation out of any kind of background noise.
If I get a hearing aid, though, I might be able to hear what people are saying about me, so I want to avoid that as long as possible.
