DHS could finalize an interim final rule (IFR) issued in 2022 that amended the credible fear process to allow USCIS asylum officers to make final asylum decisions rather than transferring cases to the immigration courts for an immigration judge to decide...this policy has nearly tripled grants for asylum in just 19 months.
