Like I said most people do not understand Islam - which goes triple for politicians. I guess you would have to have lived in a muslim country for a while to understand, plus reading the other four official Islamic books - the hadiths and sunnahs.
I don’t think DJT does, despite his experiences.
Also almost none of the modern “governing elite” particularly the elected ones (both parties!) are capable of wrapping the heads around around a society motivated solely by religion. Religious motivation of evangelicals & fundamentalist Shia\Sunni - etc. Moslems are not equivalent! Not even close, it’s nonsensical to even imply that. However our “elites, etc” try to make the comparison\connection. Making that connection, thinking ‘Well it’s religion’ there’s got to be some common ground. The truth is the “common ground” doesn’t extend much past the dictionary definition of religion. You have to spend some time in those societies and it doesn’t take much time before you realize how alien it is! The charming mannerly exchange students they met in university are a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of being repsentatial of the culture or populace. This why the policies proposed by the “elites, etc” and accompanying expectations are always wrong and make things worse.
