I stayed in a 3-bedroom suite at Trump's Ireland hotel that costs over $1,300 a night. It felt straight out of a fairytale.

My family and I visited the Trump International Hotel in Doonbeg, Ireland, for my cousin's wedding.

The authentic Irish setting, amazing service, and luxury feel were impeccable. I thought the experience was worth every penny...

Here's what staying at the hotel was like....

It does look nice, but us peons can’t afford it.

I think the author of the article booked the largest, most expensive suite

If you read the article you'd know you are wrong. They booked a smaller, less expensive suite.

We drove by Trump’s Turnberry Golf course while visiting Scotland. They ran in to take a quick look. I waited in the car. A regret...they said it was lovely.

“”When I’m on vacation, the hotel is a place to sleep, “sleep”, shower and change clothes between doing vacation stuff.””

That was absolutely my husband’s take on the subject - a roof over our heads to keep the rain off and that was it...I never objected because I was just as conservative as he was. Our daughter got married in Las Vegas and we stayed at Motel 6 while she stayed at one of the fancy/schmancy ones.

Am I the only one who sees luxury hotels as a waste? When I'm on vacation, the hotel is a place to sleep, "sleep", shower and change clothes between doing vacation stuff. Time spent in the room is vacation time wasted.

My wife and I stayed at the Hermitage in Monaco {a very expensive 10 night stay} and it was worth every one of the thousands of dollars that my company paid for it.

If it's a business write off, it takes the sting out of the very high price.

When I was in business, I always traveled first class or private jet, drove a Mercedes and stayed at the finest hotels {but it was always a tax write off, so you my FR pals, covered much of the excess cost}.

I didn't write the tax laws, but I had an accountant that knew every one of them, and I used them to my benefit.

Many expensive hotels have restaurants so one can also get to see the public spaces of the hotel while only having to pay dearly for food.

I’ve walked through the lobbies of expensive hotels.

If I was ever to be stopped, I would just say I’m checking the place out for a future visit.

Great idea!

I once had “high tea” at The Savoy in London, and a dinner at the Trump International in DC. I imagine many fine hotels have similarly affordable small tastes of luxury.

Wow. We have the uptight grade-school school marms out here today, don't we?

My bad. I should have said "was upgraded to" Sorry, Miss Diesel

One of the best dinners I had was at the Trump Hotel in DC.

For special occasions, a luxury hotel is the way to go.

Otherwise, Embassy Suites for us.

We tried economy places, until the time my son got bit up by bedbugs.

We immediately checked out.

Never again.

How exciting. The rest of us are trying to live off $1500 a month. But don’t let that bother you. You know a bargain when you see it.

When I am on business travel, I would agree. All I need is a somewhat clean place to shower and sleep. A Courtyard Marriott or even a Hampton Inn would do just fine for that.

On vacation however, especially in an exotic place, I want to go first class all the way. That includes having a luxury hotel with a lot of amenities.

Just because people aren’t bowled over by such an extravagant waste of money doesn’t mean they weren’t being truthful. Glad he has the money to burn. Maybe he could stay home and flush it down the commode next time. Ireland is so far away.

A room with a view costs bucks. I went out to Monterey, CA to play Pebble Beach and a few other courses ~20 years ago. My Dad and I split a room for $400 a night and the view of a dumpster when we woke up. The ocean view side was at least triple that back in the day. If mom had come with us, the cost would have been $1.2K a night plus spa costs..

Visited the Cliffs of Moher during a 30 days bus tour of the British Isles in 2006. What a stunning view. The tour guide told us to make sure we didn’t go past the cliff barriers that were up. He said every year, several people disregard the barriers and end up dying. The winds can be strong there, and the cliff edges are not that sturdy. I hate heights anyway, so I’m not one of those brave souls to test fate.

One of the best breakfasts I ever had was in the clubhouse at Trump’s golf course in Palos Verdes, CA. Beautiful room, great service, and delicious food.
