Nearly 2,000 migrants being sheltered in a tent shelter in New York City are being transferred to a nearby high school, where the students will have to pivot to remote learning due to the disruption it is causing – sparking outrage from residents and local politicians.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ office said it is moving 1,900 migrants from the tent shelter at Floyd Bennett Field for safety reasons due to the incoming storms and potential high winds. According to the New York Daily News, Adams told reporters that it was being done out of an "overabundance of caution."
"We want to make sure people are safe," he said. But it is controversially moving them to James Madison High School, which confirmed it was being used as a "temporary overnight respite center" and would be closed as a result on Wednesday -- with students being forced to "pivot" to remote learning as a result.

“Down goes America....down goes America”!!!
There are several buildings at FBF. Just move them inside.
They have so many places to put these Leeches so here’s an idea lets inconvenience children
Yup, down goes the US. We are in such a slide as I have said the fall is not reversable. Think of how many of these invaders can even spell USA. Any idea what our constitution says, er bad comment there as we don’t follow it anymore anyway. But the point stands. They know knowing nor care about nothing of American values. They know they are going to be cared for at the expense of the dopes who live here.
I am going to sign off now before I get a visit from the US Gestapo.
It appears that they could hold another 5000. Now that Tickle Me ALMO Opendoor has stopped all migration, Blinky and his Cuban sidekick, Mayorkass, are going to need to stack their inbound 15,000 strong herd of illegal aliens somewhere.
Parents are now scrambling to find sitters, some will have to stay home, some will lose wages.
Too bad elections are rigged.
Democrats never learned their nursery rhymes this is simple 3 little pigs. There will never be enough brick houses for all the pigs.
Gee, it looks like being a sanctuary city has consequences.
That Midwood neighborhood voted for Trump and Sliwa(over Adams).
What about all the valuable science equipment these cretins will fool around with, like curious orangutans, the dangerous chemicals in labs, etc.? To say nothing of the bathrooms being utterly ruined for human use, furniture being reduced to rubble, fires being set, all the diseases being distributed throughout the building, and the vermin from unsanitary habits. Will cost tens of thousands to restore the building.
Correct. I listened to some news analysis last night discussing how horrendous it was for Abbot to stop using the usual established protocol to deal with these dear souls - all for politics.
Pity the students that left anything in their lockers. Disinfecting for TB, etc. will be a bitch so they won’t.
Eric Adams should have sent them to City Hall nobody there is doing anything anyway.
These “climate refugees” fled warming Mexico, Central America, and South America because of dangerously high temperatures and climate “tipping points.” Given the climate they endured there, they should welcome a few chilly days.
“overabundance of caution” — so we have moved from that banal and ubiquitous COVID phrase “abundance of caution” to “overabundance of caution.”
Can’t we just jump to “super duper double abundance of caution”?
These people need to sue the hell out of the city for failure to provide their kids an education. And stop paying taxes
Parents and kids should watch out about protesting. The implication is that there will no more school cancellations for snow days. When I was a kid, I looked forward to no school. Of course when I was kid, the most advanced interactive technology we had was putting a vinyl sheet over the TV to draw a bridge for Winky Dink.
Parents are now scrambling to find sitters, some will have to stay home, some will lose wages.
Sitters? These are high school students. Although supervision of some might be required, this line of think is dumb.
Not sure a high school has enough showers for 2000 people.
James Madison High School’s enrollment is 3,500. It should have the facilities to handle 2,000 people.
My noting this is to state the facts, not to suggest I agree with this move.
Bkmk for later
