Thank you for referencing that article Rev M. Bresciani.

"Speaker Johnson Is Right, Free Market Should Set Drug Prices, Not Government"

The wires are crossed everywhere on this issue imo. Here's some notes.

The first step to resolve free market problems comes when Democratic and Trump-supporting patriots primary all incumbent state and federal lawmakers up for reelection in 2024, except for MTG, Gaetz & Company (and others?).

Sounds good, but the terms “free market” and “pharma industry” just don’t fit together.

Speaker Johnson Is Right, Free Market Should Set Drug Prices, Not Government.

It's not a free market when a pharmaceutical company holds a monopoly on a drug. Government should apply anti-trust law like Sherman antitrust to companies that hold patents that prevent generics. Since these companies hold a monopoly, their prices should be set by the government and factors like "how much R&D money and resources came from the government, government subsidized institutions or other (non-company) sources?

I am sure Johnson knows the correct things to say. That does not mean he will abide by them.

What this country needs is a Congressional leader who is strong enough to not allow Schumer to whisper in his ear. I just saw one of Schumer, with his glasses pulled down, and Johnson having their close moment.

... when US consumers are getting sodomized on drug prices and other countries pay a bare fraction, will the US government impede consumers importing those same drugs?
*****
Patented drugs can be bought cheaper abroad because foreign government either disregard our patents or force our drug companies to reduce prices. Foreign governments that do this are leeching-off our drug companies. Of course, socialists love this, but the result is less drug devrlopment.

No—we deal with them directly and the smaller ones are getting screwed by the larger-—government paid for-—companies. All these smaller companies had niche markets and researched certain illnesses for $$$ but also to resolve illnesses.

The problem is, our government is WAY too involved. And I believe that’s worse than not being involved at all.

They hold monopolies because of government-—we deal with the chemical and Pharma industries. A company should be protected for their product made-—I get tat but look at the example of the “Epi-Pen”. The prices did not get out of control because of the free market, it got out of control because the government eliminated the free market by playing favorites.

Limited Federal government and American ingenuity made this country great, but we have handed everything over to the government to co-opt and destroy.

The electronics industry is a perfect example due to little regulation creates massive competition, lower prices and and amazing product. Because of government’s limited role

Drug prices are set by anything but the free market.

Randomly raising the price 1000% because you can is NOT the free market.

US drug companies research and learn to produce sophisticated new drugs, but foreign competitors in the Third World -- usually India -- quickly poach their discoveries and produce them at lower cost and without paying patent royalties. Through accommodating federal government regulation and import barriers, US customers are still made to pay high prices for the same drugs even as low prices prevail in foreign markets. This is said to be the way drug innovation works.

Calling that a "free market" is absurd, but that is what Republicans in Congress are paid by drug companies to tell their voters, using a good principle to defend a bad system. The remedy is to impose tariffs on offending foreign countries and use that to compensate US drug companies and fund drug research in the US. In short, elect Trump and put him on the issue. He will make India and other countries howl -- and quickly knuckle under to his terms.

The problem is it isn’t a free market today. It is controlled by the large insurance companies and their PBMs

BWAHAHAHAAH

Please, free market drove a penny drug called insulin into a product where people are literally dying because they can’t afford it...

This author is an IDIOT, who does not remotely understand how Big Pharma works at all.

If you go to canadapharmacy.com you can put in your drug and see how much it costs from a number of different countries. The pharmacy was recommended by my doctor so I think it is likely that they contract only with reputable manuffacturers. My drug, for example, has a US retail price of about $450 for a 1 month supply. If ordered through canadapharmacy the cost ranges from $70 (made in Turkey) to $200 (made in Canada).

Greed is good.

It leads to investment, innovation, profit and growth.

That is a major underlying dilemma. How does the free market work when you have a government-enforced monopoly on a critical product. I would like to hear Johnson’s answer.

Drugs are controlled by Pharma, not insurance... and PHARMA completely holds captive the FDA and all other regulatory agencies that are supposed to regulate them.

This author is an IGNORANT IDIOT if he thinks the open market will handle drug prices.. the Open Market has taken cheap and common drugs and gouged them to infinity.

Anyone advocating this nonsense needs to go just read up on Martin Shkreli

Please... this mentality is the talking point of the gullible.

GREED is what took Insulin from being a cheap common drug to one where people literally were dying because they can’t afford it.

The belief that “FREE MARKETS” will fix drugs and health care are things people who are utterly ignorant of how the system works.

Greed is why it takes 2 people working to not even be able to provide the lifestyle 1 could less than 50 years ago.
