Winter Storm Ember will likely be the first snowstorm in quite a while for parts of the East. Dangerous travel conditions and some power outages are possible due to heavy snow, ice, rain and wind this weekend.
Here's where the storm is now: Ember is bringing snow and rain to portions of the Central and Southern Plains. Below is a look at the latest radar showing where this system is producing precipitation right now. Snowfall totals in these areas will generally be light to moderate.

Now they’re going to have a name every time it rains?
The gaslighting is incessant!
The weather channel is just another propaganda organ.
Our coldest for NY andn probably New England is the last two weeks of Jan and the first two weeks of Feb.
The average high is 31 or so, and the average low is about 14.
Honestly, if we ever had a perfectly average winter, people would be shocked at how mild it was.
.....”it’s going to be March in two months so it will make for one of our shorter feeling winters’..........
A friend and I were just saying that last night. Going to be a short winter - but then might get heavy with storms just the same....we’ll know soon enough here in Pa.
Our problem is that we are on the New River so temps are a tad warmer due to lower elevation. But the hill in my picture window is 3500 ft and gets different weather. I’ve been hiking on the Appalachian Trail up there and it gets nasty.
Shoot, my backyard gets different weather from my front yard (1500 ft vs 1859 ft)
NOAA is predicting that my southeastern Ohio BOL will get an apocalyptic 1/2 inch of snow on Saturday. Maybe.
Yawn.
Blue expected to see snow.
Purple-shaded may see either rain or snow.
Pink expected to see sleet or freezing rain (ice)
Thunderstorm Frank.
The naming system was first introduced in 2012 and is based on a list of names that are assigned alphabetically. Each name is selected by a group of meteorologists at The Weather Channel who consider factors such as the storm’s expected impact and its timing.
My local paper had a story on the approaching winter storms the other day, and the headline said something like, “Much of country to be hit by extreme weather.” It struck me that they avoided the words “cold,” “snow,” and “ice” since those words would threaten the global warming narrative.
Yes, it could be bad for the couple months we have it, but when the snow starts in November, by this time, it’s been *winter* for almost 2 months and I am so ready to be over it.
This way, by the time I reach the *I’ve had enough* stage, we are almost done with it.
Unfortunately, however, spring and really seem to drag its heels sometimes.
I remember one year where was had a early spring, like no frosts after March, all the way through the end of Nov at least. And exceptionally mild temps to boot.
It was fantastic.
With the Left's obsession with global warming, one would think that they would start giving names to heatwaves.
Yes, but naming storms like that is unnecessary.
Hurricanes, I get. But every nor’easter or other generic winter storm.
No. There are far too many and it’s just foolishness, IMO.
Many new residents on busses to see the storm?
All easterners are going to need an Ember Alert to come inside.
Why do people feel the need to name storms. Stupid.
Sounds like a “White” name, just because snow is White it’s discriminatory.
We need new names like Eniola, means “a person of wealth” in the Yoruba language of Nigeria.
Or Tabia, comes from a Swahili word meaning “talented.”
I hate that they are “naming” winter storms now.
Stupid.
