I can’t recall what the “reward” was but one of my coworkers had served General Dynamics for, if I recall, twenty years. In passing, his boss flicked his wrist sending the reward, a medallion, I think, flying onto the employee’s desk. He followed it up with something like, “Get those TPS reports on my desk by noon.” After the boss had gone into his office two nearby employees came over and we all stood there for several seconds. I felt embarrassment having witnessed such disrespect for the best employee in the department.
There was some low-voiced conversation about what an asshole the boss was. One of the guys shook the employee’s hand and congratulated him. The honored employee said something along the lines of, “The delivery makes it feel kind of hollow, doesn’t it?”
There was a catalog where you could select something based on how many years of service, but I looked through it and there was nothing there I’d want.
The only thing your employer owes you is a days pay for a days work.
