A Minnesota man who spent years building a record-setting collection of items related to the rock group KISS is selling it off due to financial problems.
Vern Simon conducted a count of the items in his collection last year and found that he had nearly 3,800 KISS-related dolls, comic books, toys, and other items.
After he submitted the count to the Guinness Book of World Records, he was certified as having the largest known collection of KISS memorabilia.
Simon says he's sad to have to let his collection go, but said it was necessary to find a way to take care of his family.

Well, collecting just ain’t what it used to be. Staggering how people collect crap and somehow think they’ve retained artifacts for the Smithsonian. Matchbooks, teddy bears, Cabbage Patch, etc. Sheesh.
Interesting...never heard that.

I don’t necessarily disagree with that. However, antiques roadshow proves there are some items that do retain and even increase in value.
Of course the worth of any material object is only what someone is willing to pay for it.
I’ve seen some comments on this post that shows a certain level of ignorance about the loyalty of the Kiss Army.....I suspect this guy will probably recoup a tidy sum of what he initially invested.

We collect snow. Our collection gets added to most years. But holding onto our collection is tough.

And my wife and I agreed a woman in our neighborhood was nuts for having a collection of over 300, tiny to full-size, Santa Claus dolls.
The Michael Jordan collectable stuff, in the 80s and 90s, was so much and so widespread, that it would surprise me if any of it is worth what people paid for it new.
