Send Greta into space and she will scare it out of here.
To: Red Badger
Yes indeed!
We can all sleep more soundly tonight knowing that our communist government is going to take a chance on accidently influencing the asteroid’s orbit as it skims uncomfortable close to Earth...
With the morons now in charge of federal agencies, what could possibly go wrong?

If they fire the thrusters near it will that change its course and hit us?
To: Nateman
Going that near to Earth is going to alter its orbit. I hope they factored that into the equation.
Predicted to miss earth in 2029 - there is a gravitational keyhole some 600 meters wide If Apophis hits it on its approach will alter the path to hit earth on next pass in 20246

I wonder if we should mention this to the folks at NASA.
Maybe they didn’t think of that.

A shame they can’t put BEMU on it with enough fuel to nudge it closer to the Sun in an orbit that would slingshot it out of the elliptic.

Not ever close, we already did that to a different asteroid and then landed on still another.

The people at NASA do. They're extraordinarily good at it. Your hopes are fulfilled before you even express them.

BS, they’re gonna push that thing closer. Otherwise all the billionaires would not be building bunkers right now.

Thanks Red Badger. The fact that the ephemeris and Palermo value is so often re-eval'ed for this rock in particular is disquieting. Remember, if this were really NO THREAT, some gubmint schlubs and political hacks would be declaring it a crisis over and over. :^)
