Yes, the war on drugs has failed. However, legalizing something means it will be openly marketed with slick, psychologically provocative advertisements. It will turn into a new, open, legal industry and industry survives by growing. Very quickly the new industry will lobby for the same types of perks other industries get.

I remember when abortions were legalized. They were supposed to be safe and “rare.” Now they are advertised. How does that make them rare?

There was a “war on cancer” at the same time. We lost that war too. Should we just give up and accept cancer?

As the dangerous stuff gets more and more dangerous, previous stuff becomes more accepted.

Now in the Fentanyl era
At least it was only crack, meth, oxy...
