The capital of Switzerland is considering launching a pilot program to test the legal sale of cocaine for recreational use in a never-before-done attempt to make the country’s rampant use of the drug safer.
Bern’s parliament supports the pilot program but the legislation will still need to overcome opposition from the city and requires a change of federal law to become a reality.
The proposal comes as more and more countries and US states are changing their approach to the so-called “war on drugs” with policies including decriminalization and legal recreational use of marijuana. Supporters argue that legalization allows for greater control over the market and safer usage if people use the drugs illegally anyway.

The war on drugs has not failed, it has never been seriously prosecuted.
Open borders, many, many US Congressmen, judges, prosecutors, LE, at local, state, and federal level on the take... This is not a war being fought. This is surrender on the part of government.
The way to both seal the border and successfully prosecute the war is to declare war on Mexico, and treat this problem as a military one, not a criminal or civil law problem.
Make it a REAL war on drugs, not hyperbole. Not a slogan.
Attack with military, capture or kill enemy, destroy drug infrastructure.
Tribunals not trials. Execution or long sentences or war trials. Get serious. We are in a war.
Next thing you know the Swiss will be making movies and pictures of themselves doing blow, posing in jock straps, banging hookers, playing with handguns, laundering money and skinny dipping.
Yes, this should end well. /s
Will they import it from illegal manufacturers in South America or create a synthetic drug?
There are countries that impose the death penalty for drug trafficking. Yet, there is still drug trafficking in those countries.
Explain.
I’d like to apply that to the USA.
Nothing worse than a bunch of high, Swiss pilots flying around the Alps on cocaine.
Thank G-d the drug program failed in America. America wouldn’t be crawling with illegal alien criminals if it had failed.
Just examine the AMOUNT of drug usage and drug trafficking.
But the use and trafficking never reaches 0...
For a second there I thought they were going to allow pilots to use cocaine.
And in what parallel universe will the US enact the death penalty for drug trafficking?
“There are countries that impose the death penalty for drug trafficking. Yet, there is still drug trafficking in those countries.

Just because you make a law doesn’t mean people will obey it.
Kind of like global warming, EVs, and renewable energy, just because you make a law doesn’t make things happen.
Laws are only a hammer to crush freedom.
Freedom does make things happen.
People that abuse drugs go Bye bye. No loss as they weren’t worth much to begin with.
Darwinists call that evolution.
The West is spiritually dead.
It worked so well in so many other places. Ha ha ha hahahahaha
Roadside stands selling cocaine would bring lots of people to town.
From the article:
“Parliament would also need to change the law that bans the use of cocaine before any pilot can be taken off the ground.”

Hard to know what the journalism major meant. Even harder than usual.
You can always put bounds on problems. Zero control leads to the disasters you find in Oregon and, to a lesser extent, Washington and Colorado.
Extremely strict controls leads to infringement of liberties like Singapore.
But, on balance, I’d rather live in a place with very tough drug controls and harsh penalties. I’ve personally seen too many people ruined by drugs.
You have a good point.
