I’ve long said that executions should be public with mandatory attendance across age and ethnic groups. Have a lottery to determine which citizens must attend. You can use SS numbers, DL numbers, whatever.
The day of the executions make it a festive affair. You’re going to have several thousand people there, use the opportunity. Face painting for the kiddies, arts and crafts, maybe a little community outreach.
When it gets to the shank of the evening roll out the gallows and start stretching necks.
I prefer the short drop method myself. Just enough to tighten the rope and “lock” the knot.
