So, when Rhett Hickman came home Thursday morning telling his mom that a Weber County Sheriff's Office deputy was coming over because he found a lot of money, she thought it was another prank."I'm like, 'You did not,'" said Lori Hickman. "I just know Rhett's personality and thought he was teasing me, and he said, 'I did. I really did.'"Sure enough, at a West Haven intersection, Rhett Hickman and his two friends were on their way to work and saw a box with lots of envelopes in it in the middle of the road. So, they stopped to check it out.
I wouldn’t go that far with a general statement, but these kids did the right thing. We should all be proud of them.
My father always said: There’s nothing free in this world.
Sure, they could have kept the $50K, but they would owe it to someone, and it WILL be paid back, in this world, or the next.
If I were a cop I’d wish they kept the money. They have enough to do.

What they hopefully also considered is that the envelopes were payoffs or drug transfer funds for local Mafia. Touching such can be dangerous.
Not worth the sleepless nights, I suspect.
Now, what they could have done is nick a little out of each envelope and then report that “No envelope contained more than XX $$” — throw suspicion on the ones who dropped the box. The Mafia thugs will be so busy hunting down the skimmers they will never circle back to the finders.
